Patch for Windows XP SP2
Download the Digital Edition Patch for XP SP2 (1.5 MB)
The Service Pack 2 update for Microsoft Windows XP broke backward compatibility in it's ATL module, which effected Rand McNally Street Guide & Thomas Guide Digital Edition. The effect of the error was to prevent the Digital Edition from launching. Rand McNally investigated the bug and has provided this workaround.
Check the following before downloading:
- This patch is ONLY for users of Windows XP who have already updated to XP Service Pack 2.
- Install this patch ONLY if you have the Street Guide or Thomas Guide Digital Edition version 5.05 (if you have an earlier version, return to the support home page and download the 5.05 service pack. To find out which version you have read the Readme.txt file on your Street Guide/Thomas Guide CD-ROM.
Instructions:
- Click on link link at the top right of this page to start the download of Sgde505XPSP2Patch.exe.
- Click the "Save" button and browse to your computer's desktop. Click "Save" again which starts the download.
- After the download completes, install the patch by double-clicking the executable name you saved this file as.
- After the patch setup completes you can delete the setup file from your desktop,
and run the Thomas Guide/Street Guide from the normal icon (LA/Orange, etc).
Note: This patch updates Digital Edition code and provides a fix for the XP bug. No Windows System files are updated or changed. No map data is updated. It effects all installed Digital Edition 5.05 products (you only need to install the patch one time, even if you have more than one Digital Edition installed).
If you experience any problems running the update we apologize. Rand McNally stopped technical support for all cds as of 2010.
